Halliday Meecham Architects have significant experience in the design of nurseries and have recently delivered projects for both Trafford Council and national provider Kids Unlimited.
The brief from Keele University was to design a new day nursery for staff and the local community. The accommodation is split between three blocks arranged around a central courtyard play area and provides facilitates for 128 children as well as holiday and afterschool clubs.
The nursery features an array of photovoltaic panels and a green roof to visually integrate the building into the sloping site. The brightly clad external envelope creates a facade which is both playful and stimulating and is designed to maximise natural ventilation and daylight throughout.
