Shawfair Park Hospital is a new build hospital in Midlothian for Spire Healthcare and provides new clinical facilities with a functional, modern design.
The complex programme of accommodation, including operating theatres, a diagnostic suite and IVF and physiotherapy facilities, was planned around a double height glazed entrance lobby. The internal spaces were designed to incorporate natural materials and full height windows to maximise daylight, creating a light and airy atmosphere for both patients and staff. Externally, the white render and copper panels reflect the local vernacular in a contemporary way.
Since completion in 2010, Halliday Meecham Architects have continued to work with Spire to redesign their clinical facilities and develop their inpatient accommodation to support the changing needs of patients from Edinburgh, Midlotihan and the Borders.
